Why have dentures?

If you’re missing one or more teeth, dentures provide a strong, stable and effective option. We use modern natural-looking materials to ensure partial dentures blend seamlessly with your existing teeth and complete dentures can pass for the real thing.

Complete dentures provide vital support to your facial structure, helping to prevent the premature sagging of tissue around your cheeks and jawline. Partial dentures play an essential role in stabilising your remaining natural teeth, stopping them from moving into the gaps and thus preventing alignment problems.

What does the treatment involve?

Making and fitting dentures can be quite an involved process so you may have to attend multiple appointments to ensure the final set of dentures are a secure and comfortable fit.

After your comprehensive consultation and assessment, we take impressions of your mouth so a model denture can be produced. This is adjusted until you are completely happy with the look, fit, bite and comfort, and your final set of dentures is manufactured in a specialised laboratory.

If you are having complete dentures, these will be fitted in the top or bottom of your mouth. This complete denture will consist of a gum coloured arch with a set of prosthetic teeth attached. Partial dentures will be used if you only have one or a few missing teeth and may be held in place with metal hooks attached to existing teeth.

Types of dentures available

Cobalt-chrome dentures are close-fitting and use a smaller base than other types, often not covering the roof of your mouth. They are highly versatile but not always suitable for everyone.

Acrylic dentures are lightweight, easily adjustable and often a more cost-effective option. They can also be used as a temporary solution if needed.

Flexible dentures have a very natural appearance and adapt to the shape of your gums for enhanced comfort. They are also completely metal-free and very durable.

Dentures are designed to be hard-wearing, but they will last longer if you treat them with care. Dentures should be removed before you go to bed so your gums can have a rest, but they must be stored in water or denture fluid as they could lose their shape if allowed to dry out.
